Default Sun Rise Help

Hello everyone,

I took this pic while on a cruise this past week and I am unsure as to how I did. Although I like it, I am thinking it may be too dark. I am looking for some feedback and how I might be able to fix this one up and do better next time. Any thoughts would be a big help!!

Thank you all so much

Personally, I really like the sky a lot. The water looks a little flat however, almost like they're two different pictures. There's also some weird thing on the left in the water. Whatever it is, it could be cropped out.

Thanks, That weird thing is a left over from when I tried to lighten the water. I did crop it out....I like the sky also...overall though something needs to be fixed up. Thanks for you input!!!

The sky looks great, if not oversaturated. The water looks strange to me because I have never seen charcoal colored water with a sky like that. You still have some processing remnants on the right side as well.

Since you were on a ship, a tripod would not have helped, but you could have shot RAW, created a jpg for the sky and another one for the water and blended the exposures together using a layer mask.

It's a sky. And water. And not much else. Great colors or not, an image quickly drops off my own radar screen if there isn't anything else to pull me in. Composition, first and foremost.
