Default Focus & Flash: Urban Bleeding

EXIF
Camera: Canon
Model: Canon EOS REBEL T1i
ISO: 1600
Exposure: 1/60 sec
Aperture: 4.0
Focal Length: 55mm
Flash Used: Yes

Specific Questions:

Did the flash help or harm this photo?
I never use the flash because I suck at it. I don't know what I'm doing. This shoot forced me to use it. I can't tell if it helped or hurt.

What would you focus on?
I focused on the front wall. I should have focused on the back wall. Right?

RE the flash - Hard to tell at this size.

What's the subject? Front wall or back wall.
If it is only one wall then focus on that.
If it is both walls then focus a bit past the first wall and stop down far enough so both are in focus.

I couldn't tell if you used a flash or not. I think the image is too busy, like you're trying to include too many textures/shapes and my eye does not know where to go. There is really no place for my eye to settle. I think you could have simplified the composition.

I think it's interesting. What is it? Could do with a larger pic to look closer? The fill flash works in that it's not noticeable. Was it hand held? I'd go back with a tripod so you can get the ISO down. Square compositions are quite difficult if you don't get square on, perspectives go out etc.? Man, I want a kebab now...
