Hi All! I'm new to this forum and was looking for some valuable c&c. I submitted this pic to an irish photography forum and the critique I received suggested that I should put more height and width in it and that it would be more striking in black and white. Just wondering if people agree with that. Photography is my hobby but I am a novice and therefore not sure if that was good critique I received or not. Thanks for looking

I would agree that the crop is too tight and that you would do better with space all around the subject.
I think B&W could work, but I think I prefer the color version. If you plan to convert to B&W, I strongly recommend that you start with a color image and convert in post. The ability to choose B&W tones for colors in post is a huge advantage for a B&W final image.

I think the grass is okay but could show maybe a bit more sky, just a bit more and I love what you did to the photo, you cropped it instead of merging 2 shots together.
