Default Fisherman at Umdloti Beach

I took this photo on a grey, drizzly Sunday afternoon, at Umdloti Beach, north of Durban.

I would appreciate feedback on the composition and exposure of the photo.

I think you have a really interesting photo surrounded by not very interesting space. With tighter framing, the rocks, fisherman, and water make a compelling scene for me. If you want to keep the negative space, I'd recommend moving the fisherman and rocks toward one side of the frame to get a more dynamic composition.

I like the subdued tones here, and I think the silhouettes work as well.

Thanks for showing the photo.

Thanks for the feedback Doug - much appreciated!

I have followed your advice and cropped the photo somewhat - is this better?

I like it quite a bit. The more important question, though, is do you like it?

I like your concept, but those rocks to the right of the fisherman are really distracting me. Also, I think you could have captured the fisherman in a more dynamic pose - not with his rod sticking straight up.
