Hi all,
I'm still in the 'playing' phase with ND filters. I took this shot at the weekend when we went camping at Moogerah Lake in Australia. It was taken with my Polaroid variable ND filter so I'm actually not 100% sure what the ND value was (doesn't tell you on the filter). Pentax KR Aperture: F29 ISO: 200 Exposure: 10 sec ![]() What do you think? any tips would be appreciated. I'm finding it hard working out the correct exposure time with the filter on as it doesn't tell you the ND value. I'm happy with how the shot came out - it has a real eerie effect to it. I took some more long exposure shots with an ND8 filter a few weeks ago, you can see them here - Long Exposures at Amity Point - a set on Flickr Cheers Alex |

Before I forget to mention this, it's usually not recommended to use an aperture smaller than f/13 or f/16 or else you start to get diffraction, which degrades sharpness.
If you had not said you used an ND filter, I wouldn't have guessed it. What effect were you trying to achieve by using the filter? Usually, folks use it to smooth out ripples in the water, but I don't see that in your shot. I would use it to shoot ocean waves or a river/stream/waterfall to smooth out the water.
