Default Horses at Sunset

I took this photo while travelling between Greytown and Pietermaritzburg, in the Natal Midlands, South Africa - just before sunset.

I would appreciate comments regarding the composition and exposure of the photo. I have just finished reading "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson, and I tried to put into practice what I learned in that book.

Pentax *ist DL camera on tripod, f/22, 1/45 sec, ISO-200, 55mm focal length.

I love it. The only thing I might do is lose the telephone pole.

Neville, what did your histogram look like on this one? To me, that space on the left side appears to be pretty blown.

Edit: If it's not blown, it's a bright spot that detracts from the rest of the image.

I like it but I would second trying to lose the power pole, it's distracting to me.

I agree with the folks here...the pole is distracting. Exposure-wise it works. Composition-wise, it's a bit hard to determine the main subject as everything is quite far away. Might have worked better to get closer (either with your feet or with a telephoto) to the horses and tighten up the composition a bit.

Hope that helps!

Here is my histogram. I don't think it is overexposed, as I set my exposure on the brightest part of the sky before composing the shot.

I will see what I can do about removing the pole, and then post the results here!
