I went for a stroll up to my local park during magic hour tonight and found an old Croquet field with a wooden viewers stand to spark a little bit of interest.
How is the composition? And I know that maybe it's not the best the tree is 'growing out of the stand'! I think the sky was a little over exposed, it may have been nice to have more blue in the sky. ![]() Croquet stand in Queens Park Ipswich by chaosboi, on Flickr Canon 60d Canon 17-55 f/2.8mm ISO 400 - 1/500 - 17mm |

It's a subject, but for me not a terribly compelling subject that holds my attention. If you could get that tree by itself, and shoot it at the right time of day, then you might really have something.

I kind of like it... When I look at it, it evokes a lonely feeling especially with the dead leaves all on the ground. If you want to make it a little more interesting maybe add a person? As for your actual question regarding composition, it looks pretty good minus the tree growing out of the top of it, as you mentioned. My eyes first look to the stand, then travel up the tree and go clockwise around the frame and finally resting on the stand and the dead leaves in front of it.
Just my newbie two cents worth, and maybe I'm thinking about it too much. -Raina |

I also find the tree itself a much more compelling subject than the wooden stand.
