Usually, you bracket your shots taken on a tripod for HDR, but it doesn't look like you did that. Did you make this from one image? You still have blown out white areas and some dark areas with no detail. HDR is supposed to fix that.

Most of the image looks fuzzy, so I was wondering if you used a tripod. There are also some halos around some buildings. The sky has strange streaks like you did a very quick clone job on parts of it.

I'd suggest going back with a tripod, shooting RAW, taking shots at +2, 0 & -2 and trying Lightroom and Photomatix to compare the results. You can download the trial version of Photomatix for free.

One last question - what is the subject of your shot?

With an exposure of 1/800 sec., I don't think the problem with the blur you're seeing is the camera. That shutter speed is fast enough to stop all but some really bad camera shake. I think the problem is the lens.

I've been seeing a lot of this here, where someone (myself included) takes a picture with a kit lens and it just does not look tack sharp. A $150 lens just wont take a very sharp picture, even if it is taken with a tripod on a day with no wind. A good investment for all photographers would be to go out and purchase better lenses than the one provided with the camera.

I know the kit lenses are not the greatest, but he should be able to get sharper images than that, especially shooting at f/8, which is usually where lenses are the sharpest. He did say he wasn't using a tripod, so I wonder about his camera holding technique.

Jose - have you ever read up on the correct way to hold your camera?

You can click my Flickr links to see the images I've taken with the kit lens. They're all sharper than the image in this thread. Your images should be as sharp as mine. I do use a tripod most of the time.

The original definitely looks sharper. That makes me suspect the HDR processing as the cause of the fuzziness.
