Default Very first SLR picture taken

Have always used a run of the mill point and shoot, but decided to try a Canon rebel T2i. This was taken with a EF-S-18-55 lens, and I changed only the Apeture setting to 5.6. I know there are other settings that I should record, but failed to... next time....Just seeing what tips you might have to enhance this photo, and what critiques you may have to make my picture taking/composition better as I grow. Wish I had the full resolution shot as opposed to this small image, but I mistakenly deleted it! Thanks in advance.....

Welcome to DPS

For me I would have compsed this with less stem and more of the other flowers visble (*and blurred as they) are in the background.

Maybe pay more attention to all the objects in the frame. The flowers in the immediate back left and right are spent and taking away from the image.

A square crop may be better.

Read your manual and practice using your camera so you can make changes without taking the camera from your eye. Go to the tutorial section of this site and read, read, read.

I'm not sure what editing software you use, but it seems to be stripping your image of the EXIF data. It should be easily readable from within Flickr, but it's not there.

In landscape photography, when you shoot is more important than where you shoot.
