I'd like your opinion on how I could have darkened the actual building and still keep the colors in the pond. Thanks so much for any comments that would make this shot better.

Camera Canon EOS 7D
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/3.5
Focal Length 18 mm
ISO Speed 125
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

You expose for the buildings in one shot, and expose for the pond in a second shot. Then, you blend those exposures in PP. You can also use a GND filter, and place it on your lens, with the dark part of the filter covering the top half of your lens.

If you have photoshop, choose one of exposure/brightness adjustment layers and make the adjustment so that the building is like you want it. Then Alt+click the Add layer mask button (down in the layers palette), select the mask, zoom in and paint with white brush over the building (you should be painting on the mask).

Thank you for your input Tito...I will try that next time. It was getting dark in the park because of the foliage but the sky was still light.

Milosh, I will work with it in PS tonight and hopefully I can adjust the exposure. The overexposed section is ruining the shot.

You could also use a linear polarizing lens filter, which would deepen the top half of the photo. But generally speaking, I would shoot a 3 set bracketed exposure and combine in post.
