I like the framing here (though you're tilted to the right by about a degree or so).
Your WB looks quite cool. If that wasn't done for effect, I'd warm it up a bit. The grass through the archway looks overexposed to me. You might be able to pull it back with highlight recovery (or some other tool). The shot would probably have worked better at dawn or dusk, when the dynamic range between shadow and sunlit areas would have been a bit lower, but with shots of kids you sometimes just get what you get for light. I like the concept here quite a bit. The picture evokes a story for me.

I like the concept a lot. This is just a suggestion but try shooting from her height. Right now it looks like you're shooting from above her.

Corey, you said it before I saw this thread! I was going to suggest a lower perspective so that overhanging branch isn't so intrusive. The exposure is very uneven - why is the wall to the right so much brighter than the left side? If you shot RAW or bracketed your shots, you could have blended the exposures to fix the blown out area Doug mentioned. I do like your idea here, though.

I do like the composition, very good use of space. I might agree with Corey that you might experiment with different perspectives and see what you get...that has always been a good lesson for me.
Keep up the great work.

i do like the composition. if i had to read something into this picture, it would be "leaving", which is kind of depressing; mixed feelings here. its a sign of things to come. some day your daughter will be grown up and leaving out that big door of life.

Good shot! I like the crispness and framing.
I'd love to see this repeated but taken with portrait orientation with the door around the edge and low down (pretty much camera on the ground) so you'd get your daughter and the door exposed right but everything else beyond it overexposed and blurred.. going for a walking into a dream type of feel! This would also make your daughter 'pop' where as I think she is a little lost in the photo at the moment.. of course that could have been what you where going for! |
