Default Rustic Barn

I stopped to take this photo while driving around looking for places to fish up in Missouri today. I thought that this old barn would make a nice picture. I enhanced this single picture with PhotoMatix Pro to give it the look you see here.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks PrNate.

I was really hoping to get a few more critiques of this photo, but I guess maybe it's just too good to criticize.

Technical.

The exposure and focus looks ok.

Aesthetic.
The dead branch on the left doesn't help, although the sunbeams look great.
The HDR looks a over done, at least for my taste.
I wonder how would it look with different PPing that doesn't look quite so extreme?

I kinda think that that pole adds a bit of mystery to the picture. But thanks for the comment. I'll try to edit it out and see what it looks like.

Here's a copy of the original. I don't think there was all that much pp'ing done. A little editing of the light, a bit of cropping, removal of the pink ribbon and a shot of HDR Processing.

I think the HDR processing makes it look too much of a painting and not enough like a photograph. I think the pole adds to the photo. You have what looks like an abandoned barn surrounded by overgrown plantation and the bare pole in the foreground helps add to the mysterious abandoned, no longer being maintained feeling of the photo.

Getting more comments will happen when you include more info. Here is what you should always include- critique section guidelines/rules

Thank you Corey.
I also thought that about the pole. I tried editing it out last night but felt something was missing so I abandoned that idea. As for the painting effect, is that a good or bad thing? I kind of like the style of making a photograph look like a painting. Of course it isn't for every picture, but I do think it works in this one.

Guess I should have mentioned the painting effect I was going for by using HDR single image when I originally posted.

Considering now that the painting effect is what you're after, then I'd say you captured that look successfully. What works for one person might not work for another but in the end its your photograph and your creative vision. There will always be critics, what's important is that you're happy with the work. If you enlarged this and printed it out on a canvas, that would probably add to the artistic feeling of the photo.

I was planning on enlarging this to at least 16x20" and adding a frame made from old barn wood.
