Default Flower Bed

After my previous request didn't get too much feedback, I thought I'd give another one a try...

Camera Canon EOS 60D
Exposure 1/320
Aperture f/1.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 100

Looking to offer this sort of photograph along with architectural types as print. Hoping it's good as far as overall quality and presentation is concerned.

Hi Terence

I really like the shot, nice deph of field and composition. I love the color, but not sure if this shot is straight out of camera or if you used some kind of color shift in editing software of some kind. either way it works well.
What a fantastic lens the 1.8, 50mm, right? I also own one and it really does magic.

Regards,
Sonia

Hi Sonia,

Definitely edited to give it a different kind of warmth. It was shot at evening with a harsh setting sun (which is normal in Oman), and the bed of flowers was quite sparse, so I got a bit low and tried to get the tops which also added the lovely reds in the back.

I recently just picked up the 50mm 1.8 as most recommended I try it instead of buying one of the mid ranged primes, that if I didn't like it, it wouldn't hurt as much . This being my first ever prime, I am thoroughly converted. I now eventually plan to add primes of multiple focal lenghts to my collection over time.

Thank you for your feedback.

For me (IMHO etc.) There's way too much out of focus & bleached out in the centre foreground. The OoF flowers at the right & left edges look much nicer against a dark background? There's no centre of interest?
In future I'll remember, as a newbie, that in a scene like this it's fairly easy to fake a plant or whatever, that might crown the image?

I'm hesitant in replying because I am not a pro but I will say I don't care for the composition. My eye is immediately drawn to the the unfocused foreground and then I have to hunt for anything in focus and when I find it, it is some smallish flowers in the middle. Guess I can't figure out the point or "story". I don't know enough about lenses to comment on that part.

I really like the composition and the color shift you did here. Gives a totally different feel to the picture. However, as someone commented earlier, my eyes are drawn to the unfocused area immediately and then wander to the focus area. May be you need to crop it a little bit to remove the heavily blurred foreground.

I agree with the 50mm/1.8 lens. Great lens. The only issue with it is indoors with limited space (when you do not have nuff room to move/backoff).
