Default Route 66 Barn

One of my photography dreams is to shoot abandoned barns and houses in the countryside. Here is one of my favorites that I have passed by many times on Route 66 near my home, and so the first one I chose to attempt to shoot.

Please critique composition, lighting, PP, etc.

Rt. 66 Barn 8

Cannon Rebel T3i
Lens EF-S 18-55mm
focal length 41mm
exposure 0.017s (1/60)

II like the IR processing and the barn makes a strong subject. If I were to offer a suggestion about composition, it would be to place the barn more to the left of the image. From this angle it seems like the barn is "facing" to the right, and having the negative space in front of the barn just seems right.

A road trip down Route 66 has always been a dream of mine, right after the '68 Camaro that I take it in.

Thanks, Perry. I took several shots, with different comp. & edits. You can see many of them on my flikr page (linked in my signature) in the set "Abandoned Barn on Route 66". Perhaps one of those would have a composition you find more pleasing. ...

My husband and I once traveled a good stretch of Oklahoma's Route 66 on a Yahama V-Star Motorcycle. This was in our younger days, and before our children were born. It was a beautiful ride, and we have some unforgettable memories of the day. I hope someday you have a chance to make your dreams come true, as well.

I agree with Perry about moving the barn to the left side of the image. Also, it feels to me that the barn in not quite level.

I think it's an interesting subject, but with the current composition, there is no single feature/texture of the barn that acts as a focal point, so my eye wanders over the image. So, I think you would have to get closer to emphasize a feature of the barn and establish a focal point.

Here is another edit with the barn more to the left:

Rt. 66 Barn 9

What do you think of the composition here? Do you like the first one better or this one? Is there more of a focal point here?

P.S. : The barn isn't quite level, but I don't want to correct that, because it tells part of the story. It is literally leaning!

I like the placement of the barn better here, but I wish you had fit the whole building into the frame. Unfortunately, I don't see any one particular feature that acts as a focal point. If there is no distinguishing feature to use as a focal point (sometimes it's just not there), you might try to find something to use as foreground interest in the shot.

I like the barn placement in the second one as well. The first one appears a bit over sharp for some reason and..........................it's missing something?? Not sure what.

That is my worthless input
