Default Rainy Day

I was walking throught Copenhagens streets, and it began to rain.. But that doesn't stop people

I can take Critiques.. I came here to learn

Make:Canon
Model:Canon EOS 1100D
Shutter Speed:1/166 second
Aperture:F/5.6
Focal Length:55 mm
ISO Speed:400
Date Taken:Jul 11, 2011

I used Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 to edit the brightness and make it darker at some point..

And your question is...

It's hard to give a critique when you don't provide any exif data or say what you were trying to show in your shot. Please provide the data according to the forum rules.

Okay. It also helps if you tell us what you wanted to show in your shot. It looks like a nice capture of a street scene, but was that what you wanted? I think the bright sky has caused the buildings and street to be underexposed. The image doesn't look quite level to me. I would consider cloning out the bikes on the left, as they distract me from the people (again, I'm not sure if that was your goal).

Yes, sounds great.. I'd like to hear other opinions and what they think I can do better to the picture.. That way I can learn about the Exposure on the picture, and etc etc..
So thanks

Aside from the sky being a little over exposed, I think it's a fabulous street scene. I don't think it would work as a color photo. The dark areas provide a nice contrast between the darks and lights, I think the b&w conversion works very well with this shot.

I really like the image. It's crisp in the foreground and just slightly soft in the background. The lettering on the street signs, the tent, and the umbrella are bright. There's good detail in the buildings and the raindrops hitting the ground.

If I was going to pick one fairly minor nit about this image, the light on the left seems to be hanging in space. I don't know if the brightness of the sky overwhelmed the sensor and the fine wires didn't get picked up, or if maybe a little recovery slider in ACR/Lightroom could bring that little detail back and tone down the sky a touch.

Otherwise, I think this would make a really nice large print on the wall.

I really like it too! Would I be right thinking that the PPing you did was to darken out the left & right sides of the shot? If so, I think it could have been a little more subtly graduated maybe. There's a solid grey stripe in the top right that draws my eye too.
