Greetings,
This is my first photo to submit for your critique. Any suggestions on what I should or should not have done in this photo? This was a cloudy day, but the photo was taken just off to the left of the sun. Thanks, Tony Shutter speed: 1/1000 AV 5.6 Exposure Comp 0 ISO 80 focal Lengh 21.5mm Last edited by TonyinAus7; 07-26-2011 at 11:58 AM. |

Can you give us your exif (camera settings)? Knowing that can help in perhaps offering alternate settings of your camera for you. txs

Welcome to DPS. I think you've captured the drama of the sky, but I don't think the plants in the foreground are helping and the image could use a focal point. I don't know if you included the plants to frame the shot, but I think they are too intrusive. I think a boat in the water or something like that could act as a focal point and give the viewer's eye something to rest on. I'm curious why you chose shutter priority and f/5.6. Usually, in landscapes, you want a lot of depth of field. I would have used aperture priority and f/8 or f/11. One final thing - I would level the horizon.

Thanks for your comments.
I used several settings on the camera just to see which one would do the best. This one seemed to have what I was looking for. Also, I used 5.6 because that is the closest to the optimal aperture for the G-12. (5.0) I have since taken more photos under different conditions and have used my max aperture of 8.0. And I did re-position to take the plants out of the picture. Thanks for the suggestion of a focal point, that is something that I need to remember. Thanks again, Tony Last edited by TonyinAus7; 07-30-2011 at 01:12 AM. |
