Can you also post your exif data? It also helps if you tell us what feeling/mood you were going for. In this case, it would also help if you told us what processing you have done also. The bottom of your image looks desaturated, but the top does not, so I was wondering how you edited the shot.

Did you take a shot in landscape format also? That orientation feels less confining and I think it will help emphasize the landscape and bands of clouds in your shot.

Yeah, I do get that feeling. Did you desaturate the bottom part of the image? It kind of looks like you did a partial B&W conversion. It looks a little odd to me. Like I said earlier, I think you have conveyed the mood, but I would prefer the landscape format.

I really like the colors and feeling in this image. But I agree that a landscape orientation would work better for the subject (always assuming that you didn't crop to exclude something distracting).

With a shorter focal length you could have the same balance of see to sky with a wider framing.

FWIW, I agree with Scott Bourne that the best time to shoot a landscape is immediately after you shoot a portrait (and vice versa). You're already there; shoot it both ways.
