This photo was taken a while ago but I have the opportunity to reshoot. I believe this was taken on f-22 for 20 seconds. I chose the tight aperture because I was looking directly into the outfield lights and wanted that starburst affect.

I am sort of happy with it but something tells me there was a lot more that could have been done.

At the time, I did not have a wide angle lens so I was unable to get all the bases on the shot (which is part of the reason I want to reshoot). On to the questions…

Should I have shortened the exposure?

What do you think of composition?

The pitcher’s mound was pretty flat and for some reason it was hard to tell the difference between the grass and the dirt so I had to burn the dirt to make a little more noticeable of a difference.

Any thoughts why two colors so far away on the color wheel would merge like that?

You've captured a nice scene there, but I think you need a definite subject, or focal point, to give the eye something to settle on. I was thinking a groundskeeper or a player(s) warming up. Right now, I think it's a cool scene with potential, but my eye just wanders over the image.

Maybe the angle is causing the dirt not to look too dark relative to the grass. Just guessing. Sometimes you can give the colors some nice "pop" with a Levels adjustment. Just setting the white and black points sometimes makes a huge difference.

I agree that there should be some focal point (a lone figure on the pitcher's mound would be great). To get picky, there is a tilt from left to right that could be leveled out, and the color is shifted a little toward the reds and greens so a slight color balance adjustment would be good.
