I was reading about B&W with using shadows and contrast, so I tried it. Please let me know what you think.

Personally, I think it's a bit too high-key for me as it is. Boost the contrast with a Curves adjustment, it'll bring out the blacks and whites more. I've attached an example and the corresponding tone curve to go with it, to give a better idea of what I mean.

Wow, what a difference. I do the filter B/Contrast, but I have not done the curve.I didn't even know it was a tool.
What program are you using? I only have Gimp, Photoshop Elements 4, and Photoscape.Nice to learn something new. Thank you for taking the time to post the change, and the software pic as well. Krieg

![]() I'm using Photoshop CS5.1, but Elements should have a Curves adjustment tool as well (Image > Adjustment > Curves, or Ctrl+M). It's definitely a bit tricky to understand at first, but once you learn it, it's a pretty powerful tool.

This is awesome. I checked on Curves with Elements. I have ver. 4.0, and the first 1-4 did not have curves capabilities. In ver 5 Adobe included a limited curves tool. I am going by the sites I read for the limited term.
I was able to download Smartcurves: SmartCurve that works with ver 4 & 5. I still need much practice to get comfortable with picture changing, and those tutorials should come in handy. You know the old saying, can't see the forest for the trees; I finally went through all my Canon software and looked at Canon Digital Photo Professional. This software tool has the editor function that has a curves tool. I just want to thank you all for your suggestions, and help. My photographic knowledge is a drop compared to the ocean of water, but with your help, the drop is getting larger. Kreig
