Default First attempt at a Moon shot

Hi All.

After reading the tutorial on Moon shots I thought I would have a go.

I have a Fuji S8100fd Bridge camera so no interchangeable lenses.

This was taken at 18x maximum zoom (84.2mm) with no tripod from my back garden.

I took several shots and this was the best one.

Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/6.3
Focal Length: 84.2 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV

Please feel free to look at my other Flickr images and leave comments on those too!

Default Nicely done

This is nicely done especially for first time.
I would zoom in more ( I am guessing you are at max focal length).
Borrow a lens if you have to....

I tried many moon shots and failed every time.
I will try with the settings you have used.

Very well done. Keep them coming.

I agree with buzzrk. If you are able to zoom in more, go for it. It appears that you have nice defition but for some reason it looks a little blurry. Maybe because it is so far away. If it is blurry when you zoom in on it, try taking it again with a fast shutter speed. It is amazing how easily you can blow it out or it blurs.

One of the things I noticed with moon shots is I have to take one photo, white balance it and then take another.

The good thing about photographing the moon is you have the chance to play around and try different settings.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I can't change the lens on the camera as it is a fixed lens and it was already at the maximum.

Am hoping to get a "proper" SLR in the future and will get a longer focal length lens but until then this will be the closest I can get!!!!

I didnt have a tripod so that may be why it is a little blurry!

I may be wrong, but I'm thinking at 1/250 you should not have camera shake unless you MASHED the button.

Can you secure your camera to some stationary object with rubber bands or zip ties?

Very possibly MASHED!!!!!

Perhaps the fact that I am at full zoom will leave the detail on the blurry side??

I may try this again when we get a clear night and a full(ish) moon.

At the moment there is a small matter of 100% cloud cover to contend with!!!!

Are you able to "rapid fire" with your camera? If you hold down the button and let it take three or so photos, you will most likely have one without the shakes.

Yes - I can take continuous shots, or I guess I could use the 2 second self timer so I dont need to push the button.

Will try that next time!!

Thanks for your comments so far!!
