Cool Antelope rookie

I need help with a series of shots that I took at Antelope Slot Canyon in Page, AZ. I was excited to finally go and take some pics. I like this photo because it looks deserted, when I fact, there was a bazillion tour groups in the canyon. My questions is- I sharpened (unsharpened??-too confusing to the newbie) to get more detail in the sandstone rock- is it too much? not enough? Thanks for any help- I want to print a series for my wall. I have included the link to the series, would love to hear any help- especially if any need any pp... I will only get better with your input!

I think the photo you presented us here does look pretty sharp, but I would say not too sharp. Sharpening is relative and it depends on viewing size and distance of the final print. That said, the best way to obtain a print with good sharpness is to try it and adjust if necessary. You are likely to find that you need to sharpen more than what looks good on your screen to achieve adequate sharpness in your print. It's a bit of trial and error. As for other aspects of your photo, I would be tempted to increase saturation as all Antelope shots are way more saturated than yours. Also, you could decrease brightness of the rock in upper right corner, as it attracts too much attention right now, making the photo feel unbalanced.

Hi

I agree with milosh, but would like to see this image darkened right down to see the texture of the rock and give it a more moody look.

All the best

I think your #2680 shot from the set is outstanding! Definitely my favorite. The only thing negative about it is the blown out spots, but you can tone them down in PP.

Some of the shots in the set do look borderline oversharpened. Have you tried the high pass sharpening?

thanks for all your help- when you are new, you don't see things that others see, and I'll make the changes that you suggested in pp!
