Default Grand Haven, Michigan

Grand Haven, Michigan

This is a picture taken in Grand Haven, Michigan. I darkened the two people so there would be no features (just shadows).

Does this take away from the picture? Is the picture too dark?

Please give me your thoughts (positive and negative). I am thinking about entering this in a small contest. Thank you in adavnce for viewing this.

Jason

I like dark and I like silhouettes so it works for me -- I think the lighthouse is leaning a little to the right though ... seems a little off.

No, I like the silhouettes. The lighthouse does seem to have a very slight tilt to it, though the horizon seems straight, and judging from the reflection, I'm not sure the lighthouse isn't leaning just a bit in real life. Really nice colors & detail in the reflections in the water.

I like the subject and have no problem with the silhouettes. I think they work well in this composition.

But the photo is definitely tilted to the right, which I find distracting. (Easy to fix, of course.)

I think the silhouettes are fine. It's a good shot, but feels a little bit unbalanced to me. Most of the visual interest is on the right side of the image and it feels a little cut off on the right side. I find myself wanting to see more of what is to the right to get more of a sense of balance or symmetry in the shot.

This might look better if you took two shots and stitched them together or used a wider angle.

I like the silhouette, and it sort of gives the image a double meaning. The people are place just right, and the skyline is perfect. It turns two highly photographed lighthouses into a photograph with your own personal touch to it. Wonderfully done!

I like it a lot as well. The reflections are my favorite part and I love silhouette. Although I do have to agree that the angle seems a bit off. Perhaps tilt it a bit and see how it looks.
Also nice to see pictures of places I recognize, hurray Michigan

Yes it's leaning slightly to the right, otherwise I like what you've done. Very nice!

Thank you everyone. You are right! I never noticed it, but the horizon is slightly pitched. Your comments are very helpful. It is great to have this forum to help people with their photography.

Thank you once again!

This may sound odd but flip the whole photo so the silhouettes are on the other side. Your eye naturally goes from left to right so you may find by flipping it may fix what you dont like.
You might also consider the crop. Its cut awfully close to the top and the bottom. Not by much but if you consider the rule of thirds, you'd have abit more room on both sides.
Nice shot tho, I'm from Grand Haven. Havent been there in a few years but still have family there and Muskegon
