Arrow Beginning Photographer - Sunset Silhouette

I recently bought my first DSLR camera, and brought it along with me to a family trip to Muskoka in Canada. I snapped this photo while riding a paddleboat, just as the sun was setting.

I'm not sure if I embedded the photo properly... I tried to upload it to tinypic and use that url. fingers crossed that it worked!

I'm not sure what EXIF data is, but here's the info:
Nikon D7000
Kit 18-105 mm lens (at 105 mm)
Exposure 1/3200
ISO 1600
0.7 EV
f/14

I just wanted to know if this photo is too boring and trite (the sunset photo has been taken countless times), as well as any other ways to improve, and any other tips about photography for beginners.

Thanks!

actually it is straight, it's just that there was a slight slope/hill thing. but i can see what would make you think that it was crooked

Great motive! Perhaps i little more focus on the grass straws would make it even better.

One thing I would say, whilst I don't think its too obvious in this photo, using such a high ISO can make your images noisy/grainy. Unless you need to use a particularly high shutter speed, or there is a real lack of light, I would try and use the lowest ISO value given the available light.

Thanks for the helpful critique, guys!

Yeah, I didn't realize that I set the ISO so high - I'll make it lower next time

There's never such thing as too many sunset shots. :-) That said, it would have been nice to see the vegetation in the foreground more in focus.

Always be mindful of where your settings are. You could have probably shot this at one-tenth that speed and still come out ok. High ISO's are a no-no in landscape photography. Since you said you weren't sure what EXIF data was for, I would suggest reading up here in DPS about the exposure triangle of exposure time, aperture, and ISO. A quick search will give you a lot of information on here. Keep shooting, I look forward to seeing more of your shots.

Thanks for the tips, EOBeav. Yup, I figured out what EXIF data meant

I really like it, sure the ISO could have been lower, but the image is really well composed and warm.
