Was the wheel moving? I think its a lovely shot, but it would have had great impact if the moving wheel (assuming it was) was the subject.

No the wheel was not moving the water level was too low if I remember right the wheel was the focal point for the shot

What a great subject to capture, and with such antiquated character too! I have a couple thoughts related to your shot. First, the subject seems a little cramped. I think if you widened the shot a little more so that the entire mill can be seen, and so there is some "breathing room" around the mill. This would make it more aesthetically pleasing. Second, it appears as if the shot was taken midday, which explains some of the harsh light on the rocks and so forth. If you were to wait for sunset or capture it early in the morning, the lighting would be much softer. Finally, I think you could boost the saturation and contrast a little bit to bring out more of the texture and colors.

Hope this helps!

Agree at large, though I'm not sure wideing the shot would be better. You could do a little HDR processing to eliminate the overexposure on the rocks.

Looks it might have been a good candidate for an HDR shot...
