The bathroom window frame is a part of the composition that I'm happy with. It's integral to the picture both in framing & feeling.

Did you want feedback on specific elements of the image, or did you mean to post it in the SYS section?

I'm really sorry, yes I was looking for feedback on the picture but I'm completely useless when it comes to the internet. I have no idea what SYS is? Help me out if you don't mind.

If you want feedback, you're supposed to post your exif data (ISO, shutter speed, aperture) for your shot and you're supposed to ask for feedback on specific aspects of the shot (like composition). Here is the list of rules - Critique Forum Rules

The SYS means Share Your Shots. It is for people who wants to post their images, but do not want others to critique them (basically fishing for compliments).

Thanks for your help Krusty! I definitely need to pay more attention to the technicalities

Oh cr*p! So on the one hand I have to include a load of data that I generally don't pay much attention to for a critique or on the other hand be relegated to the happy snappers?
Surely if any photographs are manipulated post-camera then the metadata becomes irrelevant?

Even if the image is heavily photoshopped, it helps others to evaluate your shot if you include what ISO, shutter speed, aperture and focal length you used. It also helps if you say what idea/feeling you were trying to convey. For example, lets say you wanted to show the tranquility of a mountain stream and you took a shot at 1/125 of a second. Someone could then recommend a longer shutter speed to blur the water and give it a softer look. You don't absolutely HAVE TO include that data, but it is strongly recommended. It also helps if you ask for feedback on specific aspects of the shot, not just "what do you think?"

Unfortunately, I do not agree with you about including the bathroom frame in the shot. I find it distracting. But, that's just my opinion.

Thanks again for your polite feedback Krusty. The window frame was the reason I put the picture on the site for critique. I was flip-flopping in my mind about whether breaking the 'rules' by including it might be superseded by the, hopefully, novel idea that including the photographer's position might, artistically, add to the image.
It seems to me that taking an original photograph these days is marginally more difficult than making a better cartoon than The Simpsons. Sorry if I'm getting into chit-chat territory
I liked your pic of Mono Lake, if you're on Flickr or whatever please PM me so I can see more of your work, thanks!

Don't be discouraged from experimenting. It's good to experiment. It doesn't cost anything. Try different compositions and angles. Don't get in the habit of just shooting at eye level. It is difficult to take an original picture these days, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

The Simpsons used to be one of my favorite shows, but it's hard to be consistently funny for 20+ years. I watch a lot of Family Guy now.

You can see my Photostream if you click the Flickr link in my signature. Thanks for the compliment.
