Default Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai

This from the Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai.
Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Looking for general input. The color is pretty true if you have ever been there.

Cropping? Composition? How would you improve this?

Personally my family like the photo but what do you think? I think I still suck. Just not very confident.

If you view the original size you can view the rock texture/striations.

As per forum expectations, we need your EXIF data. Also, don't just post a link to your picture, but post the picture itself. You'll get a lot more feedback that way.

The exposure looks good but for me there's a lack of a compelling subject to draw me into the photo for long.

Hi, when we said EXIF.....

Camera Nikon D5000
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/10.0
Focal Length 48 mm
ISO Speed 200
Exposure Bias 0 EV
Flash Auto, Did not fire

this data will be enough to provide, no need for more now let's go to your photo.

without viewing your picture and from the title itself "Kilauea Lighthouse, Kauai", i was expecting for a lighthouse, but there is no existing lighthouse , (not so important)

Yeah, I agree that your family like this, it's a good photo but not that much interesting, you mentioned that in original size we will able to see the texture/striations of the rocks (we saw it), it's a good thing that you have the capability of capturing those elements.

+1 to Corey, there is no compelling subject to your photo.

Upon shooting something keep in mind and ask yourself, "Why I like to shoot this thing?", I guess that you like to shoot the textures of the rocks, now look for a different angle/perpective in which your subject will look differently in a way that other make an interest to look for it.

Keep on shooting and make your subject more interesting...families always say's our photos are good, nice, beautiful.
