Is this completely weird???
I took this picture from the car window as we were driving down the road.

I'm guessing inexpensive point and shoot or maybe a mobile phone camera? It's not weird per se. It's a low dynamic range sensor not being able to handle the intense light and metering for the bright sun. That's where the blown out white sun and complete black shadow come from.

No, this was taken with my Canon EOS Rebel XTI but as I said before I was riding in the car as my mom was driving so I am sure that I had my settings a little wrong and I should try to edit it a little different I guess. I am only 15 and I am trying to figure all of this stuff out.

I would say avoid trying to take your shot in a moving vehicle

It is quite a dramatic photo. It would be interesting to try cropping it in various ways. IMHO there is more dark foreground than is desireable.
