I have just started photography and the attached photo is one of my first night cityscape shots. Critiques invited on composition and white balance.

The lower right corner is the brightest and most saturated part of the photo, so it draws the eye immediately. I don't think that foreground helps you in this shot. If you reshoot, I'd recommend moving forward a couple of steps to eliminate most of the orange in the lower right corner.
That said, I think you actually do want a foreground object* if you use the current focal length. I'm afraid that there's nothing obvious here to provide that, but you might do better by moving left or right along the shore. If you can find an interesting dock, or breakwater, or boat, or something, I think you'll have a better image. I think the WB would be fine without that orange corner. HTH * Alternatively, you might be able to use a panoramic crop to limit the phot to the city lights on the horizon. Worth a try, anyway. |

I'm NOT a professional, but it looks like you used the streetlight behind you for your WB making the colors a little strange to me, and giving the impression that there was a wash of florescent light. How to fix? Set the camera up for florescent lighting and give it a try.
Personally, I would have found a darker spot to take the picture so the lights of the city stand out.The intended subject is a little dark for my liking, and the weeds would have been the last thing I would have wanted to see first. JMHO. Keep up the work! |

Here is a Full Moon shot taken by me on 15th June. Any suggestions to improve the details.
