Here's one I took earlier this year at Moonta Bay,SA. Minimal editing in Picassa( I don't have Photoshop
) Go easy guys as this is my very first post and photo to be critiqued. Actually, go as hard as you like! Taken with a Canon EOS 1000D, 18-55mm lens

Nice shot, I would have preferred putting the bridge a little higher up in the composition... about a third of the way from the top since you are shooting from below the bridge. This will cut out boring sky. If shooting from above the bridge, I might place it at the bottom 3rd, if there is an interesting background to see.

Don't apologize for not having Photoshop. You can get good results with free and open source image editing software.
Do you have EXIF data handy? You have a lot of noise that's especially noticeable on the right side of the image.

arlo957 - I thought about cropping a bit more out of the sky, but I think the relatively blank sky helps to emphasise the lone figure on the bridge. Having said that I will have a look at it again with some more cropping. EOBeav - I'm not sure what you mean by noise on the right side of the image. Is that the general darkening on that side of the image? I'm not sure about how to get the EXIF data. Cheers, Simon |

I like the mood that you have created. Both the noise and the sky definitely work in this photo.
EOBeav is reffering to the unwanted graininess in the image, which is more apparent on the right side of the image. Generally, noise is an unwanted bi-product which you want to try and avoid. In certain cases, such as in your shot, to add to the interest in the photo.

you should be able to get the exif info from within picasa. try using picasa's help document.
