Default Composition/Clarity: The Headless Boardsman

Camera: Canon
Model: Canon EOS REBEL T1i
ISO: 400
Exposure: 1/350 sec
Aperture: 11.0
Focal Length: 194mm
Flash Used: No

Question:

Does a headless photo work? I like it but then, I'm weird.

The Black and White conversion: How do I get the clarity clearer? I'm not sure it's quite right. Perhaps more contrast?

could not decide if it was a landscape or a people. I decided on landscape since he was headless.

Headless is fine, but the lack of focus is what is bothering you. It looks like the focus is on his front leg.

thanks. I had no idea it was out of focus. I was trying to focus on the board.

I blame the auto focus. No way it could be user error...

It looks like you were using AF-A which is area focus and it will lock on the most contrasting element within the area you are pointed at. Set to AF-S which is spot focus when you want a certain element to be the focal point. And yes it was the AF's fault.
