Default Distracting background?

Not sure I used a quite high enough f-stop. I think the background might still be a tad distracting.

I don't find the background too distracting. I find the harsh shadows more distracting.

Red Hot Poker, Kniphophia Uvaria. Sorry certain images make my brain revert back to plant I.D. LOL

I think the problem is not the background, but that it dosent "pop" due to the harsh light. Softer light will make the color of this vibrant flower stand up better to the background.

Yeah, should have put that point in the original post. I definitely knew that the light was harsh. Midday sun was the only time I had to shoot that day, and didn't want to waste my free time without getting some behind the lens time in.

I can see your points. I was distracted by the deep green of the background, but maybe if the flower is brighter, then the background won't matter. I'll see what better lighting does for it, thanks.
