I am an amateur photographer and I am still learning every day as I go on. I would really like to learn more and I thought the only way to do so is to ask. So here we go. I am very pleased the way this shot turned out. No image manipulation or editing was done. Winter is arriving in South Africa and here on the High veld where we stay, we sometimes get awesome sunsets and sunrises, particular in winter. This photo was taken late afternoon as a cold front was moving in. Regards Albert Ps. My dream camera is the Canon Mark 1D - when I "grow up one day" I would like to own one of them.

I really like the colors. It is quite an amazing sunset. I even really like the repetition between the power lines and the towers. But I like power lines too for some strange reason. It's just that the main power lines feel like they're leading me to nowhere and it's a secondary set that show me the sun. The little dots in the foreground are also kind of detracting from the silhouette.
But we're learning together. I'm just an amateur too. That's what this amazing site has been so kindly set up for. However, I totally find it awesome that you didn't edit because the exposure really is just (well what I would consider anyway) to be spot on. Nice

Very cool sunset!
Power lines are tricky because they tend to be lines that break up your image and get in the way so to speak. I think it might have been a little more appealing if you were able to shoot at an angle that created a line into the photograph rather than having the power lines fall off the end of the frame. I find my eyes focusing on the main tower in the front of the image and following its lines right off the left side of the image. It might have helped to have a wider angle, or step back a little and frame it to include a second tower as a resting point for the eyes. As is the power lines don't lead to anything. Of course it's easy to critique and say what would have made a good shot better it's not easy to take a good shot to begin with so bravo on a catching a spectacular sunset

Yes the little dots in the foreground was a bit annoying, but it was caused by some street lights in the distance. The fuzziness of the clouds was exactly that. One get the impression that I moved the camera while I was taking the shot. On the High veld here by us, the colder the upper temperatures are in winter, the more likely it will be that the clouds appear fuzzy. Then we also experience a higher amount of air pollution coming from the informal settlements, so I think the fuzziness might have been caused by smoke.
I hear what you say in terms of the lines leading to no where, but I think my focus was more on the pylons disappearing into the back ground. It was a bit difficult to change my angle as there was more "unwanted" clutter that I didn't want to include in the picture. Thank you for all your feedback! I do appreciate it a lot! Regards - Albert
