Default Grand Canyon with a Fisheye Lens

Hi All...

Looking for (gentle) composition/exposure critiques..or any other comments you have for me. I've been "hobbying" for many years now..but attended an After Dark (Photography) conference in New Orleans last November. That's where I finally understood Manual mode on my Canon Rebel. My trip to Arizona in April is where I challenged myself to shoot in RAW and try new things.

EXIF:
Canon Rebel XT
ISO 400
Shutter: 1/400
Aperature: f/22
Lens Focal length: 10mm

Thanks for taking the time.

Nice depth to this, the sky is great, the green plants in front make for a nice foreground interest.
But, the colors in the canyon are rather dull. Try using your saturation adjustment level and bring out the reds a bit. Not too much to make them look fake, but just enough for some vibrance

Great shot! I love the perspective, nice balance, great sky and clouds. Only things I would critique is to fix lens distortion to make horizon canyon rim flat. The other thing is it looks like you could have shot at a lower iso and still have a fine shutter speed to reduce some noise from the sky.

That's definitely one of the better Grand Canyon shots I have seen. My only comment is that I know you wanted a lot of DOF, but if you shoot at an aperture much smaller than about f/13, you can start to get diffraction, which degrades sharpness.

p.s. - if you have time, I think this person could use your advice
Antelope in the summer- lens???

Not familiar with Canon lenses, but with my Nikon 10.5mm fisheye I can shoot almost wide open and anything as far away as a landscape will be perfectly in focus - no need to use a small lens opening.

This is exactly what I wanted to say.
Besides that, I would try to add just a bit of contrast (not too much, since haze is expected in a shot like this and you don't want to totally get rid of it) and carefully increase saturation like Michelle said. And one more thing, perhaps I'm the only one, but I find your watermark to be too big and unnecessary obscuring such a wonderful view.

Thanks for the suggestions all. I increased saturation alot in this photo already...hence the red in the foreground rock. Was afraid much more would really make the foreground rock look fake..but I'll give it a try and see how it comes out. I took the photo with a fisheye lens and that's why the horizon is distorted...I typically like my horizons straight..but I was going for that effect, though I had hoped it would be a bit more pronounced. And thanks for commenting on the watermark..you are not the only one who has indicated that I need to scale it down a bit...so I'll do that. I appreciate all of your comments. Thanks much. Sue
