Very nice shot. I like the composition and I think the exposure's fine, but there is something I can't put my finger on right now. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a lovely photo and you've certainly got a Venetian image down. After a third look, maybe it is the exposure - I'm just wondering if the left hand side, the building with the guy in the window, could be a bit lighter. I'm really not quite sure

Hi Art,
Nice shot, I would love to visit Venice. I am very new to photography (hence my name) but I was wondering why you chose such a wide apperture? The pole seems to be a bit blurry which I find distracting. Could you have stopped the apperture down to say f/11 or greater to increase the depth of field and compensate with a longer exposure time? Did you have a tripod with you? A longer exposure would also smooth out that water which may have been a nice effect. Would love to see more shots of Venice if you have any

I actually like the more shadowed parts of this image, and wouldn't lighten them up. I imagine that's just how it is there.... darker on the streets, with sky-light being obstructed by so many buildings. Try shooting manual or Aperture priority next time, and stop down to about F11 to get longer depth of field. I like this shot.

unfortunally, i did not bring tripod and the tour does not allow you to spend time to decide shooting different Fs
Thanks for your comments Art

I would love this pic if it weren't for the awkward dude hanging out of the window. In some cases I think it's great to have a single soul hanging out of a window and whatnot but my eyes want to follow the canal and the gorgeous buildings but it inevitably goes back to the guy. Crop him out and I think it'll help the composition.
