Default Crown Point monochrome

Just wanted to know if this b/w conversion works for you. Any other comments/suggestions are also welcome, particularly regarding composition. Thanks in advance for taking a look.

It looks quite grey and not seeing a lot of textures at all. Was it that grey and cloudy that day?

Normally, I find that B&W works well with landscapes such as this if there was a nice burst of light coming in from the sky behind clouds and all, which creates nice contrasts. Here, it seems there's just clouds everywhere, hence, the dull grey feeling and look in the conversion.

I don't know if your aperture was too small, hence, perhaps there's a little bit of underexposure for this monochrome effect, or perhaps you needed to do some partial or spot metering on the shot. Or both.

It would be interesting to see the original shot and see what others can provide as far as settings you've used and the conversion in post processing.

Sorry I'm not much use....I'm trying, though

I've read that a good B&W has whites, blacks and various shades of grey. I think the blacks are missing in your shot, so it appears to lack contrast.

Yes, it's a great scene but needs more contrast imo.

Hi Rick,

I think if you add a soft light overlay it might add some punch. Sometimes I'll lighten the image a little before I add the overlay to get the effect I'm looking for.

This shot makes me miss my trip here. I got the best job I get to explore so many nice areas like this.

Nice work!
