You're right about the reason behind these dark halos.. You can try to re-edit the photo and figure out which step of the process creates or accentuates them. Personally, for me, the yellow colour of the leaves is a bit too vibrant. Also, there is a weird dark spot between the two lower trees. It looks like an accidental brush stroke.

Thanks milosh.
Went through each of the settings last night and it turns out Lightroom's HSL Luminosity can add haloed artefacts like this if there's a lot of fill/recovery. The weird brush stroke thing looks like its just another side effect of HSL. I've updated the photo so it's a bit less vibrant too. Thanks for your feedback. Fraser |

I quite like this as an abstract photo.. And because of that, I'd suggest the opposite to Milosh.. I think you should push this beyond normal and into David Hockney territory.. I'd like to see you push the colours away from normal, for example put a strong purple colour cast on the sky.. Change the leaves to blue, and see where you go playing with colours like that..
I think it's a really interesting photo, but I think you need to move away from reality and let the artist inside you roam free.

OK, just for you SwissJon I've done some tweaking. I went a bit David Hockney and pushed the colours all over the place but I came back to this as it has something of the last few weeks. There's been a lot of mist here intermingled with harsh blue skies and the bright poplar leaves that I don't want to lose entirely. See what you think -
