Default Long Exposure City Scene

I shot a variety pictures of the following scene. I kept running into the issue of what seem to be color radiating from the neon sign. I tried many different exposures and I couldn't seem to fix it. Any suggestions??

Did you really try to take down the exposure? I think the "radiation" can be lowered by drastically lowering exposure. But then you'd have to deal with blending the two images and making it look believable. Because, you can obtain lower brightness of the sign (by lowering exposure) but the area around the sign on your second photo will still have some spilled light. It's tricky.

Maybe someone knows a better solution...

What was the exposure?

Also, were you using a filter on the front of the lens? Was everything clean?
