Hi all!
I am looking for feedback on this photograph especially on composition, exposure, colouring and of course anything that might come to mind ![]() I think I should expose the darker parts of the rocky part a bit more and maybe remove the colour burn layer on the beach. I like the drama of the clouds. Does it feel like the eye is being led from the bottom left to the middle right and then towards the top left? My eye does travel as you asked and I think you're spot on about your exposure and color. For me the foreground is a bit over exposed also.
Nice work

That is a cool beach with some nice colors in the foreground and sky. My eye does follow the flow you described, as it tends to follow the shoreline. There are two things that I believe could be improved; 1) The foreground does not seem to be in focus; 2) There is no real focal point in the shot. I don't know if you autofocused, or where, but at f/14, the foreground should be in focus.

Thank you both for your comments!

The issue is that lens I was using doesn't have the focus distance labeled on it, I don't know if you have that lens or are familiar with it?

I tkink it should upped a little bit. It's a little dark in the upper right.

navcom told me not to rely on autofocus, that it will come back to haunt me in PP. I guess you are finding out why! I try to use manual focus now, but my eyes are not as good as they used to be and I am often shooting sunsets in fading light. I might see if Live View helps me to see what I'm focusing on better, as I have lost some shots because they were not in focus
I have a Canon, but, have not noticed any focus distances on it. I guess they expect everyone to autofocus.I know they have apps for smart phones with hyperfocal distance tables. I should see if I can download one to my Blackberry. I have been too lazy to memorize them.

I guess it is a matter of personal taste. I really like the large contrast between the sky and rocks, and would rather darken the foreground. The great thing about digital is you can play around with the image and see what works. the composition is good, and leads your eye around the shore. But, the closest thing to a subject- large rock in the foreground- is a bit out of focus, so there is no real subject.
