Post Sunday Sunset

Sunday Sunset

I would like to have your views on the horizon. Is it getting too centered? There was no space to crop out either top or bottom while composing as I wanted both, people & tree(as a frame) for the shot. What else can be improved here?

In my opinion, no it's not. The people and the ground they are sitting on provides its own horizon, which for me is much stronger, the actual horizon, as a result of the people looking at it, then becomes the subject, with the tree at the top providing a frame that prevents the eye wandering from the picture.

A nicely composed picture. I can't really advise about improvements as you have neglected to include EXIF data.

I provide the flickr link so one can have a look at EXIF or comment/add me as a contact there.

Here is the EXIF,

Shutter-Speed : 1/125
Aperture : f/7.1
ISO : 80
WB : Cloudy

If you want help from people on this site, you need to make our lives easier. We're not paid to be here, and we're very unlikely to follow a link to Flickr, we're much more likely to move onto the next photo and ignore yours. It's up to you what you want to do, but remember, there's nothing making us provide feedback for you except our goodwill.

I like the composition, but it does look a little soft, which I'm guessing is probably down to the fairly wide aperture 7.1. With your iso so low, there would have been a fair amount of breathing space to up the iso before noise would be an issue. This would have given you a bit better aperture without decreasing your shutter speed, which I'd guess you chose to freeze any people movement or breeze on the palm leaf.

I often have this problem, forgetting my iso. In this case it would have helped turn it from a snap which could have been achieved on a point and shoot into something a bit more special/controlled.

I feel my lens has lost its sharpness due to age. Kept the ISO low as the noise creeps in badly even when raised to 200 on my camera.

I like the shot. Man, you folks overseas get some cool sunrise and sunset colors that I never see in California. Oh well, you can't have everything. I think your composition is good. The only issue I have is that this is a rather busy silhouette shot. They usually have one silhouette, but yours has 3 and for me it's starting to get too busy. I think I would prefer it with fewer people in the shot, but sometimes those things are out of your control.

You're right, one can't have everything. At first, there were more than three people in the frame. I waited a bit & then clicked when only three remained. Thank you for your valuable comment.
