Default Grander

Hi All

Spent last weekend playing with my wide angle lens getting use to it and this was one of my favorite shoots from the weekend. I did play with the vertical distortion a little but I wanted to leave most of it. I wanted to capture the essence of when you approach the bank of its grander. Which leads me to my question. Did I succeed ?

Also could you tell me what you think about the composition? Should I've used a little transform and squared the sides up some? For me I'm fist drawn to the top of the image because of its mass and then the sides wedging into the bottom helps bring my attention to lower part of the image. Or do think it's just the vertical lines of the columns that lead the eyes up and down the image?

Thank you

Well, for my 2 cents, I really like it as is. I like the reflection above the doors matching the sky and the way you've frame the shot. To me it's a keeper.

My only picky point about this (and it's only a little one) is that you weren't quite central. (Look at the centre rail) This doesn't show much, just a sight uneveness along the two edges.

If I was the owner of that bank and someone presented this to me as a publicity shot or something, I'd be very pleased with it. A very good use of converging verticals to make the building feel even larger and more ominous.. Well done.

Thanks Bruce A

SwissJon don't think your being picky at all. It's these little details that really help. Thanks

I think you succeeded in making the building look imposing. I was also wondering how it would look in B&W and/or if you put the camera on the ground, tilted it up a little and took a shot in landscape mode.

Krusty79, here's the bw, I think I may like it a little better. Thank you

I also thought about capturing the whole building from a low perspective in landscape format but was shooting from the street and will need to back on a morning with less traffic.

Thanks again

Yes, the B&W looks nice. I think it looks more imposing without the blue reflection in the front door.

Great minds think alike! At least, I'd like to think so.

I like the B&W better. There is something about the blue window that takes attention away from the columns and peak. Definitely an interesting shot. I wonder if that window would look like gold with the right sunset?

I like the idea about the sunset.
