Default Tranquility

This photograph was taken early in the morning. No post processing done. The sky looks very bland and dull to me. Can anybody let me know how to get some colour into the sky to make the photograph much better to watch.

I use GIMP but am a total novice at PP.

It's a bit late to add anything to the sky, it's totally washed out because you exposed for the foreground.. Exposing for the sky would have resulted in an underexposed foreground.

In such a situation, there's two options. Use an ND Grad to reduce the dynamic range so that the sky is within the capabilities of the camera at the same time as the foreground being properly exposed, or take two photos with different shutter speeds so the foreground is properly exposed in one and the background is in the other.

Don't quote me on this as I'm no expert, but the problem I think you have is that in order to expose the darker forest/river area properly the sky is blown. If you were to expose for the blue sky you'd have nothing but shadows down below.

In my opinion I think the easiest way to get the look you're asking for is to take two shots, one exposed for the sky and one exposed for the rest and then merge them in PP.

I'm sure someone else will tell you if I'm wrong tho.
