Default night composition

There was a well being dug, and right besides it stood a lone palm. Kept the car lights on to give some brightness at the bottom. The entire thing seems to be out of focus. Didnt had a tripod, and had to go real far to get the entire composition. Acted as a tripod, stopped breathing, but still couldn't prevent the shake (really long exposure). What to do??

3-4

EXIF:
Camera: Canon EOS 1000D
Lens: 50mm f/ 1.8 II
ISO 200
Flash: did not fire
Exposure: 1.6sec

if your camera has image stabilization, you could use it. also, you could put your camera down on anything stable, like a rock or a ledge or any piece of wood then use timer. you shouldn't touch the shutter so it will at least prevent cam shake.

1.6 is pretty long for hand-holding, even with IS. If you're in a pinch and need a tripod, look around you and get creative.

You could have put the camera on the car (with the engine shut off) and used the self timer to avoid camera shake when you trip the shutter.
