Default Now take a look at this...

Hi all, the Chapel Bridge ("Kapellbrücke" in German) is a 204 m (670 ft) long bridge crossing the Reuss River in the city of Lucerne in Switzerland. It is the oldest wooden covered bridge in Europe, and one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions.

The covered bridge, constructed in 1333, was designed to help protect the city of Lucerne from attacks. Inside the bridge are a series of paintings from the 17th century, depicting events from Luzerne's history. Much of the bridge, and the majority of these paintings, were destroyed in a 1993 fire, though it was quickly rebuilt. Some of the blackened structure of the bridge still remains today, evident from the newly rebuilt parts of the bridge.

Adjoining the bridge is the 140 feet (43 m) tall Wasserturm (Water Tower), an octagonal tower made from brick, which has served as a prison, torture chamber, watchtower and treasury. Today the tower, which is part of the city wall, is used as the guild hall of the artillery association. The tower and the bridge are Lucerne's trademark and form the most photographed monument in the country.

Can you please critic composition & saturation?

thanks Art

Hi Art

I like the composition. The covered bridge is a nice leading line across the image.

But thats were it ends for me. The shot seems kind of flat and lacks DOF and the blown out sky is a killer. If you are cloose I would go back and shoot at a different time. This location holds a ton of potential.

I also think the composition is decent, the bridge leads my eye nicely to the left side.
But I don't like the blown out sky. This was obviously taken in some of the most uninteresting weather you can imagine , so, doing it again in better conditions might yield a better result. Try imagining this scene in sunrise, with a warm pinky glow in the sky that reflects in the water, those nice swans in the foreground and if there is some low fog or mist over the water as well, that would be a killer shot.

Fully agree, at least it is decent shot, the rest can be fixed with PP
Thanks Art

Without reading everybody's comments already:

It's a nice subject, and I like the composition. You need to take this at a different time of the day, when you have better skies to work with. As it is, it's completely white, which is a no-no for this kind of thing.

I won't repeat what the others have said about sky etc.

Days like this are "detail" days.. Your distance shots are spoiled by the sky, but the opposite is true for shootin details, people's portraits etc. The White sky gives you a great big soft box, softening shadows and so on, making it ideal for portraits, and shots close up of interesting features on buildings.

I like the place, but in my... "humble" ... opinion, I love the "tic tac toe" rule to create a composition (Rule of third for geeks). Why not using it a bit to see what happens? Remember, a photo is never bad! So, do not delete it or feel bad about it. It's cool and it's a historic heritage for new generations who might wonder how this place looked like exactly on the same date you took this picture.
