Default Cropping

I wasn't sure what to do with this shot. Any comments on this crop? Is it missing a focus point?

I see some possibilities for an abstract type of shot here, but with the current composition, I'm not sure if your subject is the tree, rock or water. I wonder if a polarizer could have reduced the glare off the water.

I'm not sure if cropping will help any.. I would bin this photo and have another go somewhere else..

Just out of curiosity, what made you decide to point your lens here? What were you thinking when you decided this might make a good photo? What do ou like about this photo that you think it's worth finding out more about it and posting it on here? I don't mean to be rude, please don't misread me, it's just answering that will help guide you on how to change the way you "look" when you're looking for a photo opportunity.. One of the hardest things to do when learning photography is to learn to look. Your photo here is a classic newbie photo, you're obviously out looking for something, you just don't know what to look for.

There's a few books around that can help you develop a photographers eye, I really enjoyed this one.

Default Thanks

Thank you Krusty and SwissJon. Your comments mirror what I was feeling, though I really wasn't sure what was the problem. SwissJon, I was actually going after the reflections on the water, but somewhere along the line that changed - this is actually a crop of the original shot. Perhaps I will go back to the original and rethink it.

SwissJon, no worries about my taking your comments as rude, I appreciate the thoughtful response. The reason I posted is to get exactly the responses that I got and some ideas as to how to improve - the book reference is greatly appreciated.
