Because of the conditions I don't believe your use of a polarizing filter had much effect on your image.

You might want to review this web site How To Use A Polarizing Filter.

Thats right, i am not much of an expert but i think the polarizer is best used when the sun
is strong and up above you up till 20 degrees away.

You could still improve on the color by post production.

The biggest advantage using a polarizer offers it that it cuts down on reflections and glare. For this image if you have rotated the polarizer perpendicular to the light on the water, you could have eliminated the reflections on the surface of the water allowing you to see into the water. That probably wouldn't have added much to the image though, because depending on how deep the water was, you'd only see a solid green color.

The other common use for polarizers is to give skies a more intense blue. To get that though, you would have to have a blue sky to begin with. From the looks of things it was either overcast/hazy when this was shot, or so dark in the woods that exposing for the trees blew out the sky. In either case, the polarizer won't help very much.

It seems that what you need to be working on is figuring out the right situation to use a polarizer. When you want people to see under water, behind glass, or you want to include big, blue skies are all ideal situations for a polarizer.

Thanks for all the feedback. I took some shots of underwater rocks and the filter worked.
