Hopefully im on the right track here. You did say to be blunt so: This is a difficult shot to balance the exposure between bright and darks. You would have been better waiting 15 minutes letting the sun go lower in the horizon and use a longer exposure. The composition seems out of balance and doesn't show me that it was well thought out. What is the story you are trying to tell? If you can go back try a few steps in all directions, well maybe not forward looks like you may end up in the water. It can make a big difference. Nice attempt keep at it you're not far off

I agree with Benchdog's comments. There is too much dynamic range in the image for your camera to accurately capture the bright and dark areas. You could wait until the sky is not as bright, but sometimes you lose colors in the sky doing that. Other options include exposure blending or HDR.
I don't think the cut-off tree on the right is helping your composition. Unfortunately, you're only allowed to post one image at a time in the Critique section, so I can't see your other image.
