I was on a recent business trip to Belgrade, Serbia and took my camera with me. There is a very nice park called Kalemegdan and here is a view I caught off it.
I am looking for feedback on B&W conversion, composition and on colouring. I feel the photgraph could be a little sharper, even though I like the way the smog has made the background "bland" ![]() EXIF data: Camera Nikon D80 Exposure 0.001 sec (1/800) Aperture f/5.6 Focal Length 80 mm ISO Speed 400 Exposure Bias 0 EV

Well, I pretty much like it the way it is. At first glance I was looking for more details in the buildings but on second glance, I saw the couple and the background seemed to melt perfectly away.
As for sharpness, not even a concern for me on this one. Looks fine but even if it were a bit off, I don't think it would bother me. The tones and BW conversion work for me too. And I have to say, while I look at the couple, I soooo want to know what they are talking about. There is just something about their body language that makes me want to know more. Nicely taken.

Hi Karen!
Thank you for the technical review, I really wasn't sure about this but you have laid my heart to rest It does appear as you say that even if it isn't fully sharp it does work for this composition. When I saw these two people on the bench I left my wife in the middle of a sentence and run 20 meters, got down into a paparazzi stance and fired away a couple of shots, the scene just seemed so powerful to me! The place was full of locals and tourists and the way I ran with my camera everyone looked at me as if though something wasn't quite right in my head... :P

I love super sharp photos as much as the next guy 'cause it's easier to make a sharp photo blurry than to make a blurry photo sharp. But, when it comes to a shot like this where the subject is subtle and the atmosphere smoggy, sharpness (for me anyway) becomes a secondary concern. A slight lack of sharpness can add to the ambiguity of the scene and can work quite well.

![]() And, are you going to print this and hang it on your wall? I think it would look great in a square matt and a big black frame.

I was just thinking about printing possibilities coming back from work today!
![]() Matt is most definitely the paper and it's a graet idea about the big black frame! I'll check out the possibilities. This is going to be my first wallhanger I think!
