Default Looking for Honest Feed Back

Hello Everyone,

I am new to DPS first off and this if my first post.

I enjoy taking landscape and cityscape pictures and would like some honest feed back on this picture taken with a Nikon D3100, f/9, 1/320 sec. ISO-100 at 75mm. Hope that's everything you need. Also there was no PP, as I don't want to be critiqued on my photoshop skills.

If there are any suggestions it would be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks

Welcome to DPS. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to critique this because I don't know what you were going for in this shot. That might explain the lack of responses...

Just shot the picture, I just don't feel like it sharp enough, to me, it looks like it could use something else. Do you think my setting where okay for this shot?

Welcome to the forum.

When I look at this I cannot tell if it is a picture of distant mountains ruined by the dead tree or weather it's an image of a dead tree with a distracting background.

There does not seem to be a subject (framing-wise), but the two themes/scenes competing for attention and frankly for me it's a toss-up (neither is winning).
Maybe other angles/viewpoints would have allowed them both to share the space available in your viewfinder.

Thanks.....that's what I want to hear....I felt the same way about the shot myself....I wish I could have spent more time with it. I'm so new to this and with feed back like this I will learn a lot. Thanks again

zenandzen explained my issue. I could not tell if your subject was the branches or the distant mountains. Unfortunately, either way, I don't find either that compelling of a subject. You might choose something that is green and growing instead, unless you were purposely going for a more lifeless look. Your exposure and settings look okay, but I don't recommend shooting in the middle of the day if you can help it. You'll have a lot better light shooting in the golden hours. Try to take a closer look at pictures you like and how the subject matter contributes to the image and keep shooting!
