Default At The Beach

Took this picture while laying on the beach on one of the few nice day's New York has seen lately. I think I like the angle but feel that the sky might need something. I'm not really sure.

1. What do you think about the angle this photo was taken

2. What are your feelings towards the sky.

From 365 day project

You have some interesting lines in there. You're on the right track when asking about the sky. May I ask what time of day you took this? You get much better colors during the times just before and after sunrise, then again just before and after sunset.

The angle and composition look good to me. But it appears to be a little underexposed.

I'm going to echo EOBeav's comment on the sky. If you can't shoot in the golden hours, at least try a circular polarizer to try to get a bluer sky. It's hard to comment on the angle without knowing the beach layout. I noticed what appear to be some footprints on the right side of your shot and I wondered if they could be used for foreground interest. Right now, my eye goes to the imprints at the top of the dunes, but there is nothing in the foreground to lead my eye into the shot.

Thanks for the comments. I shot this pretty much in the middle of the day. I am def going to get a polarizer and see the difference it makes.

You might also try graduated neutral density filters as well. As previously mentioned, circular polarizer would be great to pick up if you don't have one yet. Circular polarizers typically work best when you're shooting 90 degrees from the sun, which for me can be limiting at times. In situations where I can't shoot 90 degrees from the sun, I'll just use my GND filters instead (although not the same effect, it's better than nothing).
