Welcome to DPS. If you view the share your shots and critique sections you will learn a lot from the people that contribute to this site. There are some great photographers on the site that share their talents.
I like the the contrast of the delicate flower and the rocks as well as the composition with the rocks leading up to the flower on the left side of the picture. I think the exposure and the focus need to be improved. The flower, which I believe is the main subject of the photograph, is out of focus and over exposed (blown out). Additionally, there is a blown out area on the rock to the right of the flower. I am not experienced enough to tell if the blur is caused by camera shake, the wind, etc. and don't know the limits of your P&S but look and see if you can adjust ISO or shutter speed or perhaps use some fill flash.

Hi there.
If you want your picture critiqued, which I assume you do, you need to follow the Critique Forum Rules Thanks

There's over 100,000 users on this forum, and daily I think the stats go to more than 3,000 a day, so you can understand those of us who voluntarily choose to critique shots making short requests to new posters to read and follow rules.. It takes you very little time to do so, and takes us far longer to keep repeating ourselves, when we'd much rather get on with commenting on your photo. We aren't mods, we're ordinary users who need information to do what you want us to do. You need to read the rules. There arre two things still missing from your post.. EXIF data and self analysis which entails asking pertiant questions. If you just want someone to tell you if it's good or not, you need to post in the SYS section.. The critique section is more about how to improve a shot, and improve your photography in general, and it needs to begin with you doing some work on the picture first. If you're not willing to put the effort in, you will find very few of us are willing to do the same.. There's no point telling someone how to improve what they have if they just go "yeah ok" and carry on as before.. We make no distinction between newbies with P&S cameras and pro's with full frame DSLR's, critique is critique and it's about improving, and you need to commit to this process first. You haven't "violated" anything, you just need to commit to this process or if you don't want to, and just want a quick yes or no answer, you need to post in a SYS thread instead, I'm not chasing you away, just trying to draw you in to the level we need you to be drawn in, to make it worth while commenting.

Please observe Jon's recommendations next time you post. That being said, I agree with troutwhisperers evaluation of your image. You have a good subject with pretty good composition, but the focus and exposure issues are hurting the image. Like someone else said, your eye naturally goes to the lightest part of an image in this case, this means the blown out part of the rock on the right. You can adjust the blown out parts in your editing software, but the focus issue can't be corrected that way. One of the advantages of a DSLR is that you can manually focus the camera and you can select your own aperture to control the depth of field.

this is the husband who took the shot I know that photography requires a committment that includes recording data which I didn't (not expecting to do anything other than hang the picture on the wall of my office) and it was a p&s so I wasn't expecting a great shot but within those bounds I think it turned out well I will take it back to the software and do alittle dodging to take care of the blow outs thanks again for your comments

This Photo which I took in May of 2007 with a Konica Minolta Dimage Z6 still has not only the original exif, but a record of all changes made in PSE 9 as well. Beach photo
